Rehearsal Summary - 04/09/24

Including directors, seven us were able to make rehearsal this week. To be honest, we spent about half of rehearsal catching up with each other since so many people haven't been able to make it recently. (As a community-centered organization, I consider this a perfectly acceptable use of our time.) We were, however, able to work on our breath, warm up with "rolling hills", and work on "We Dance Around the Maypole". As you may know, that little ditty has a very awkward section where it really feels like there should be a rest and, instead, there's a "but". We've considered various methods for addressing this, including simply adapting to it, but last night we tried removing the "but". This seems to flow better musically and resonate better semantically. We were able to get a pretty good recording of this version, which I've uploaded to the Drive. We had planned to work on the sigil song, as well, but my musical notation skills are lacking, so I'm going to revise the sheet music tonight and we'll revisit the piece next week.

If you'd like to review these pieces, or any others from our repertoire, at home, the sheet music and recordings are available on our Drive. For the naming conventions of the recordings, see the document in our Drive. If you're trying to practice at home and can't quite discern your note, you can use a keyboard app to plunk out whichever ones you're having trouble with.  (This is by no means an official endorsement, but the app I use is "Voice Training - Learn to Sing" by the developer Learn to Master. It labels the notes on the keyboard and gives you real-time feedback on what note you're singing.) If you need a tutorial on how to read music, this one seems sufficient for helping you figure out which note you want to find on the keyboard.

No donations this week but we remain grateful to anyone has has donated in the past. Thank so much! If you would like to track our accounting, you can view our donations and expenses spreadsheet and receipts on our Drive.

We plan to continue working on "We Dance Around the Maypole" and/or our sigil song next week. We can't wait to sing with y'all!
