Rehearsal Summary - 09/01/26

Three of us made it this week, including a new person! She's been on our mailing list for ages now but this was the first time she could make it and it was so nice to have her! She has some experience on the keys and is particularly interested in harmonies, so she plans to have a go at our music, looking for opportunities to harmonize more. We spent a lot of time getting to know each other but we did manage to get in quite a few songs! Since the Autumn Equinox is coming up, we worked on both "Equinox Chant" and "Harvest Chant". I was also excited that I was finally able to get folks to sing, "Luna's Lullaby", which I think is a really lovely piece. It was particularly comforting to a member whose cat recently passed away, which sparked a long, solemn conversation. To continue the conversation in a lighter vein, we worked on "Feathers" a bit, which is a lively piece with a sort of transcendental theme. Finally, we closed out by spending some time with "Dark of the Moon". Our new person picked up each melody really quickly but, predictably, we had some difficulty putting all three parts together. We were finally starting to lock in when, unfortunately, 9pm came and we had to pack up and head out. It was such an emotionally and musically fulfilling rehearsal! I hope it sets a trend for the rest of 2026!

If you'd like to review any of our material, the sheet music and recordings are available on our Drive. For the naming conventions of the recordings, see the document in our Drive. You can also listen to the TPC playlist of recordings of some of the pieces by professional artists on Spotify. If you're trying to practice at home and can't quite discern your note, you can use a keyboard app to plunk out whichever ones you're having trouble with.  (This is by no means an official endorsement, but the app I use is "Voice Training - Learn to Sing" by the developer Learn to Master. It labels the notes on the keyboard and gives you real-time feedback on what note you're singing.) If you need a tutorial on how to read music, this one seems sufficient for helping you figure out which note you want to find on the keyboard.

We didn't receive any donations this week but we remain grateful to our past generous donors! If you would like to track our accounting, you can view our donations and expenses spreadsheet and receipts on our Drive.

We can't wait to sing with y'all!
